Introduction

Having two personas to choose from. I chose Annabelle, who found regular calculator rather boring looking. Hence she would like to have a more fun and user friendly calculator with vibrant colours that would be admired by her clients. She is an ambitious, admired, adventurous and fun loving person.  Brands that act as my inspirations are Alessi, Propaganda , Beats, Naiise and Sumajin.

Concepts

These Concepts are all inspired by puzzles. Instead of sketching out, I used adobe illustrator to create my concepts

The 1st concept cover is wood , 2nd and 3rd is silicon, the 4th and 5th is plastic
I like the 3rd concept which is colourful and creative as well as the material makes it comfortable to use and hold. However, taking into consideration the Anabelle is a director that meets up with clients everyday and manages the budget. I felt that the the 3rd concept may be bright and distracting. So in the end I pick the 2nd concept. Which have the same cover material as the 3rd one. It still have colours but not too distracting.
Anabelle love vibrant colours so i change the cover colour from black to white.

As you can see, similar categories buttons are group together by colours.

Learning Point

Usually I would draw out the designs and concepts but for this project I used Adobe illustrator to design. I learned how to do the lighting and shadow effects, material  effects (wood and metal) and the texture of the surface(Matt or shiny)  to make it look more realistic. My lecturers taught us a number of ways to create the numbers on the calculators as well to get different effects, for example, indentation and protrusion.
